Course Details 2012

Terracotta_Potter_DayAll courses are run at our well equipped Solway Ceramics Centre.  The centre facilities are always available enabling individual early starts or late sessions to develop/continue your work if you wish.

All these courses include free breakfast, coffee & tea refreshments and a buffet lunch in the comfort of the Centre's Communal Area.  Cooking and food storage facilities are available in the communal area for your own evening 'self catering' (or there are good pubs nearby that serve evening meals).  W.C.'s and showers on site. Laundry facilities available.  Comfortable leisure area open 24 hours.

In addition there are a limited number of basic camping huts available, free of charge.  They have a simple bed, table and chair, carpet and battery lantern (no electricity).  Alternatively, we can supply a list of good B&Bs and hotels in the local area.

January 2012 onwards - Open Studio Days - Tuesday

January 24th 2012 onwards.....   Tuesday's Drop-in Open Studio    For anyone interested in developing (or beginning) their work with clay.  Open 10am  -  4pm   Cost:  £5  (+ materials used)   Develop your own work or, if wished, one to one tuition with Ray Pearson can be pre-booked @ £10 per hour  Please see our News page for further details.  

Adam Field - Demonstration Day (NPA,SPA) 21st April 2012

Saturday 21st April 2012     An NPA and SPA sponsored Demonstration day presented by Adam Field.   This is a rare opportunity to listen to Adam talk about and demonstrate the development of his work which covers soda fired incised porcelain, anagama woodfired work and Onggi work inspired by his stay in South Korea.  Adam Field now works from his studio in Durango, Colorado.  See his website, www.adamfieldpottery.com for a view of his work.   Please note that booking is open to members of Northern Potter's Association and Scottish Potter's Association only until April 1st.  Thereafter tickets still untaken will be available for non-members at £15.  Please apply for these to Solway Ceramics Centre - email address.

Group Pottery Days 2012

Spring/Summer 2012      Friendship groups, Family groups, Organisations, Schools  -  All these groups have found a day at the pottery to be something really different, enjoyable and inspirational.  Group sizes can be between 4 and 10  with average cost of £30  for the group booking plus £10 per person.  Please see our News page for further details and for  a description of a previous group day!

August 2012: Altering and Decorating Thrown Forms with John Calver

Mon 13th Aug - Fri 17th Aug.  A 5 day residential course run by John Calver.  He will be giving group and one to one tuition on 'Altering and Decorating Thrown Forms'.  This course is suitable for students who have basic throwing skills and would like to experience the challenge of making more complex shapes and to explore a variety of decorating techniques.  John has based the course on the forms and techniques typical of his work.  Cost is  £350                        8 places available

August 2012: Two Courses with John Stroomer

August 2012   Course 1  'Throwing .......Taking it to the next level'   with John Stroomer. 

 Mon. 30th July - Fri 3rd Aug.  A five day course run by  John Stroomer for participants of all levels - beginner to advanced.  Using one to one and group tuition John's workshop will develop your skills to take you to the next level and beyond.  John will cover a wide range of thrown shapes, lids, sections and attachments, while working on building individual strengths and resolving problems.  Cost  £350  For further details and booking form, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. August 2012   Course  2   'Glazing and Firing...gas,electric,wood...a touch of salt & crystal' with John Stroomer

Mon 6th Aug  -  Fri 10th Aug.      A 5 day course run by John Stroomer.  This is a hands on course giving tuition and experience in glaze preparation, glaze recipes, testing, application techniques and firing preparation together with kiln loading and firing using gas, electric and wood kilns - plus the opportunity to continue developing throwing skills with John's expertise always nearby.   Cost  £350          8 places available.     For further details and booking form please email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
